My client is the purveyor of men’s clothing to customers throughout stand-alone retail stores, concessions and an extensive wholesale network, with many exciting brands that inspire, invigorate the wardrobe and lead the way in the fashion stakes. We are now shortlisting CV’s for an experienced Head of Merchandising to join their fast-paced Head Office that is going from strength to strength, and to achieve this, new talent is required. The Role

To own with the Head of Buying the commercial product assortment, meeting customer requirements across each customer-group; presentation of key strategic vision for the business with regards to seasonal analysis, option plan, forecasted sales, intake and margin; and ensure budgeted margins are achieved and provide a strategic vision of both short and long-term sales, stock and margin potential. Among other requirements are –

– To support & guide the Merchandising team to deliver the business and team objectives

– Development of the Merchandising teams career progression and refine succession plan
– Motivate and lead the Merchandising team (direct and indirect reports at all levels)
– Be responsible for the recruitment of key & strong candidates for your own area of business

– Ensure teams provide excellent service to suppliers, customers and other departments
– Monitor and then optimise the trade-off between improvements in stock & working capital

– Understand progress within the supply chain to ensure approvals and decisions are made

– Manage changes in demand and logistical changes as and when they arise

– Align department resources with areas of growth and profitability

The Candidate

You will have a great sense of commercial awareness, a drive and determination, and a positive outlook and approach; written and verbal communication skills are a must, and management skills are essential. Good team working skills and a pragmatic approach will be needed too. Also –

– A passion for retail

– Relevant Degree or similar qualification

– Numeracy, analytical and negotiation skills
– Able to work in a fast-paced environment and achieve targets

– An entrepreneurial spirit with a drive and willing to take calculated risks
– Good organisation skills, able to multi task and to cope well under pressure
– At least 5 years working in a Senior Merchandising role within a clothing-based business

– Management and leadership experience essential with a proven track record of managing a team

You will be required to travel to see the overseas supplier and distributor visits; regular visits to London to meet key stakeholders, and potential short notice of key management meetings
